The I Promise Poetry Blogroll

I offer you a whole new blogroll program. This is for people who want a more organized way to meet other poetry bloggers, recieve critism on your work, and who are willing to promise to visit the other blogs listing on your I Promise Blogroll.

Each I Promise Blogroll would list only 5 blogs. If you sign up to add an I Promise blogroll to your poetry blog then you are committing yourself to, every Thursday, stop by each blog listed. You need to leave some kind of comment on those five blogs on Thursday.

Each I Promise Blogroll will be set up by Poets Who Blog and given a name. For example, the one I will put on my personal blog will be called the:

Heart of a Poet- I Promise Blogroll.

Leave a comment if you want to sign up. If you do not visit the other poets every Thursday for more than a few weeks in a row you will be dropped from your I Promise group.

I am definitely interested, although I'm not sure I understand exactly how this is going to work. How is it that the groups are being formed exactly?

writerwoman said...

The way it will work is if less than six people sign up there will be only one group. But if more than six sign up I will assign a second group, etc.

That way no one has to promise to read more than five blogs every Thursday. Once a few more people sign up I will post more information and we can get started.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FACIST AND A POET OR AN ARTIST? APPARENTLY, NOT MUCH. THIS IS WHAT I FOUND:

ANA BEATRIZ GALANO: Lastly, because I live in the best fucking country on this planet, I am allowed to say that, had I been president at that time (even though it probably would have been my last decision), I would have dropped a bomb on their dastardly country and the surrounding ones, just in case any of those bastards were hiding there. No help to rebuild, no help to learn the democratic system...nothing. Get rid of all of 'em, men, women and children. Don't be fooled into thinking that they don't have groups still planning the destruction of our country, of our way of life, of our liberties and freedom to express ourselves as we choose.

If you disagree, you're quite entitled...but tell it to someone who gives a damn. You can get your own blog and write your own opinions there.

God Bless America

THAT ANYONE WHO CALLS HIM OR HERSELF A SENSITIVE HUMAN BEING WOULD LINK TO GARBAGE LIKE THIS IS AMAZING. I GUESS BEING READ IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PRINCIPLES. YOU CAN KEEP YOUR LINK. THAT YOU DON'T BOOT A FACIST LIKE THIS WOULD BE EQUAL TO STAYING LINKING TO SOMEONE WHO SAID: "I HATE BLACKS AND ALL WOMEN ARE MORONS! THIS IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH SO GOD BLESS AMERICA!" PATRIOTISM IS THE LAST REFUGE OF A SCOUNDREL. ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE. IT'S ALWAYS EASY TO LET THINGS SLIDE WHEN IT'S NOT A CALL TO ANIHILATE YOUR OWN GROUP, GUILTY OR INNOCENT. HAVEN'T EVEN THE SO-CALLED POETS LEARNED ANYTHING FROM THE HOLOCAUST? RWANDA? 9/11? THIS SO-CALLED ARTIST IS AS SICK AND DEMENTED AS THOSE MONSTERS OF 9/11. SHE SAYS SHE'D DO THE SAME THING TO INNOCENT PEOPLE. AND NOT ONE VOICE TALKS BACK TO HER. AND ALL OF YOU LINK TO HER. SAD.

I think you are a coward for posting this anonymously and you are a hypocrit for using this public forum to accuse this lovely blog for any indiscretion. If you thought the link was inappopriate, you could have quietly informed the blog manager; or you could have non-anonymouyly made an announcement on your own blog. This blog is about community, and by posting anonymously, you have no right to contribute to it.

Part of democracy is the existence of structures that promote the free exchange of ideas (which this blog does), but also the responsibility of people to transparency and openness. Apparently you are for neither of these. If it is true that this person has certain beliefs that you disagree with, at least they are not hiding behind a veil, pointing fingers at people.

What you are asking me to do, anonymus, is the equivalent of censorship. I will not be party to that.

Beyond the scope of that issue ( of me choosing to not link to someone based on their political ideals), is the one of I can not be expected to travel to every blog on the list everyday and read every post to know if someone is in line with my personal beliefs or talking about aliens ruling the world or talking about killing government officials in every country on the planet. I don't have that kind of time.

If you do not like Ana Beatriz Galano then I suggest you tell Ana Beatriz Galano. I neither know of, support, disagree with or can control her personal opinions.

Poets Who Blog supports all Poets who Blog regardless of what they blog about. Here where I live, in America, we have a saying:

If you don't like it, turn the channel.

Goodbye, anonymous. May you find a site more to your liking somewhere else in the blogosphere.

writerwoman said...

Brian,

Thank you for your support. I would never leave an anonymus comment on a blog because my personal moral code tells me I must stand behind my every word, action and deed but not each person feels this way.

Even if the way anonymus brought it up was a little loud and overbearing for my tastes, this person does bring up a viable subject: should I have not chosen to link to some sites based on their content?

I say no. And I stand behind my decision.

Your words of support, Brian, mean the world to me. You embody the essence of Poets Who Blog.

With my unpredictable schedule and internet connections, I will do my best!!!

I'm talking about the poetry, by the way :))

writerwoman said...

Anna, hi. :)

The ideal is to comment on Thursday but if not just try and leave, at least, one comment before the next Thursday. Or leave two comments whatever day you get a chance to stop by. I am sure it will work out okay.

I am excited about getting to know the work of some new poets better.

Hi WW,

My brain is mush tonight, so I am not sure I understand what this will look like in practice, but it sounds like a brilliant idea. Comment on Thursdays. How hard can that be? Count me in.

Bedtime for me now. Night, night.

Count me in, writerwoman. I just need the details. It's not clear to me if we pick 5 different poets for each Thursday, or pick 5 and stick with them for ? long. This is a good idea and calls for kudos, and a cartwheel. ;>

Sara,

I think there could definitely be extreme cases where you would be right to choose not to link to someone (blogs containing explicit calls for acts of violence against particular groups, child pornography, repeated abusive behavior toward other members, or things of the that nature), but I agree with you that you shouldn't be screening people based on their beliefs. Not to mention like you said, that it wouldn't be practical.

On the happier side, I'm excited about the new I promise blogroll. I try to skim through as many blogs on the main blogroll as I can, but it will be nice to concentrate my efforts on people who I know are updating and contributing.

I think it would be helpful for people in the I promise blogroll to state what kind of comments they are looking to receive - in general or poem specific. I can think of at least 4 possibilities: strictly compliments, light critique, heavy critique, and interpretation.

What do people think?

writerwoman said...

Janet,

All you need to do is comment on the 5 poets assigned to you.

Your group is listed on the main page.

Thanks for joining.

Sara

Brain,

I think if the poet is concerned about it they should definetly mention it on their site and I would do my best to keep my critique to the level they desire.

I have been posting my poetry online for a year and not found any instances of poeple really giving long detailed critiques so I think it would be more a case of not getting enough information in the comment, instead of too much.

I don't think anyone is usually overharsh, that I have seen.

I've come upon this a bit late, but since I'm the person that "anonymous" accused of being a facist among other things (lol), I thought I should respond. By the way, if you knew my pet peeves you would have spelled fascist correctly, but I'll let it slide, since you're sooo upset...

I am surprised that I haven't heard anything about this til I just came across it now, quite by accident.

I realize that by putting our words through this medium, we expose ourselves to all sorts of vulnerabilities and accusations when we rub someone the wrong way.
If one million are reading, there will be one million different opinions - as certainly our beliefs
are based on our different life experiences.

I'm not the kind of person that goes out of her way to harm others, quite the contrary actually (which anyone who knows me well would attest to). I AM however, an impulsive and passionate person and when I feel the urge, I let my opinions be known.

I've gone through the trouble and time to keep up my blog and feel that it would be quite easy for someone who disagrees either to click "next blog" or have the courage to respond to me directly and challenge or question my beliefs and why I have them. I probably would have ignored them, for lack of interest in the matter. But I might have responded, who knows.

I am certainly NOT interested in politics in any way, but when I do have a political opinion it tends to be extreme and I allow myself that indulgence, always remembering in the back of my mind, that my family had to escape their homeland where several family members had been executed or imprisoned for having a political belief different from the dictatorship in existence.

You think I'm a dictator? You're very foolish, although I appreciate your vote of confidence. All I am is a daydreamer and a control freak. That ranting was a fantasy, although apparently politically incorrect, in your opinion.

I stand by my declaration that this is the best country on earth, for many reasons, the best of which is the one that allows us to speak our thoughts, despite who's ego it may burst.

You think I'm a scoundrel? Sick? Demented...well thanks - I never knew I was that interesting (lol).

Perhaps next time you'd like to borrow some balls so you can have the courage to identify yourself? I have a few spare ones lying around here I can lend you, if you wish.

Writerwoman if you would like to remove my link from your blog, you won't hurt my feelings. I'm quite proud of myself for finally being at a point in my life where other's opinions about me are irrelevant to who I truly am and what I want to do in life. Its taken me 30 something years, but I finally accomplished that much.

Now if I could only lose 100 lbs, then I'd TRULY be a force to be reckoned with!

Ana,
sorry for this whole mess with anonymous and that comment. Though anonymous has a right to their opinion, PWB is not going to bend to the will of one person who is not even a member here. I never considered removing the link to your blog.

Hope, besides this issue, things are going well for you.

Best wishes,

Sara
