Back list

When you find a poet you enjoy online do you ever go back and read old poems of theirs (ones not on the first page)? Do you leave comments for those?

How often do you leave comments online? Anyone willing to admit they are just a lurker? If so, why?

I like to leave comments for poets I read regularly. It's valuable to form a relationship that way. I tend to lurk for a bit, get a feel for the poet, read older poems as well as newer ones, and then begin to comment, if it's a poet I am drawn to read again and again. Sometimes a comment is for an older poem I particularly appreciate, but often I'll begin to comment with the newer poems.

i comment a lot. i want to interact with other poets online. i know how much i love to get comments :) and being an introvert it makes me feel like i'm extroverted for a time - netroverted!

I comment on most of the poets' sites that I visit. I tend to visit most of them through prompt sites and therefore, usually post a comment.

I am a lurker, because I don't want to step past the line of making someone uncomfortable due to my comments or critism. If most people were open to it, I think we'd all grow as writers. By finding so-called flaws in other writers' work, we can often find the 'mistakes' we make that we'd rather skip.

When I come across a blog with work that really strikes a chord, I read more and will leave a comment if I read something that strikes me as truly outstanding. And I do appreciate the same from visitors to my own blog. It's always a good feeling to discover that someone has gone beyond looking at the latest entries.

I tend to comment a lot. I think its a good way to start conversations and to help people get feedback, plus I only comment on poems that I enjoy.

When I stumble upon a new poet's blog that I'm smitten with, I purposely try to sift way back in their postings. One, to see how far they have gone with their craft and two, to try to give them some feedback on their poetry that may be collecting a bit of dust - resurrect it some!

we love comments and our motto is "share, exchange and debate, always with respect". however, we hardly get any comments at YAP... sigh!

I comment on at least one post in every blog I visit. That, to me, is the only fair thing to do when people are putting themselves out there, expressing themselves as they think best. I have had lots of visitors to my site who have not done that and I can never improve my blog if no one ever tells me whether they enjoyed it or whether it sucked! I also try to be honest without being unkind.

I try to give as much feedback as i can to help the writer improve, and also feel good about themselves. I try go back every once ina while to read their old stuff.

Funny thing, because you allowed me to reflect on myself and the answer needed a bit of thinking. I was surprised, but it seems that I sort of go back to my OWN old poems and read them from time to time, but I never went back to the blogs I follow and read their old poems. I would not say I am a lurker since I comment whenever I read a poem I like. Sometimes I might also critic or try to analyse the post.

Nice topic! Thanks for bringing it up

The time factor was an issue at first, as I was following so many sites, but I'v now narrowed it down, and I am coping better. Many are not reciprocal, but I don't mind, as this is not my purpose: I like to offer friendly feedback, so as to influence them to keep writing, as someone is taking notice (amongst other reasons).

Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.

i comment pretty often, i know i love it when people give me imput,! and especialy on older poems, my best are in the past thats for sure!

I don't often give criticism, as I'm hardly an expert poet, just someone who puts their feelings down in words. I do think it's only fair to leave a comment when visiting, but I won't comment if I feel I have nothing to say - otherwise it's just platitudes.

I tend to bookmark those I enjoy, and read them back when I'm unable to sleep, working my way through posts. If I like it enough, I'll subscribe.

Poetry is my passion. I enjoy poetry so that i can learn from them. I'll definitely try to find the most popular poems in the blog first, then later on decide whether I've to stay or not. Since poetry is varied to many different people, there is no particular protocol that you need to follow, is there?

I love to visit poetry blogs, and yes, when I find one that has two or three poems I like, I almost always go back into their archives and read older works. I have made several poet friends during my years on WordPress, and I value them highly. I have three different kinds of blogs on WP, but I connect with poets via all three of them. I am now venturing out into the "Blogger" hosting site with my poetry blog, and I hope to meet a lot more poets that way as well.

I like to leave comments but I don't do it as much as I should. I just started my poetry blog but I write posts on a friends blog and I love getting comments on my articles. I think that if people took three minutes to post and comment and to on people's blogs it would be really great. Check out my blog: http://poetryhasnorules.blogspot.com/

I feel it is essential to leave a comment...encourages, elevates and eliminates the poet from feeling all alone. Always a gentle way to give constructive critique...I find find most poets really appreciate it. I know I do~
