The points made are correct, but I still put a copyright by my poems and send them to the Library of Congress once a year. I know someone could steal them, but I still find value to doing so. It is a formality that I like to uphold.

Yes, I have read this too! When I submit to magazines I never use it. Like he said it is a mark of an amateur, but I do include it on my blog. Just makes me feel a little better!

I don't know if I agree with its use being the mark of an amateur. I know it can still be taken from someone but all of the sources I've ever come across have stated to use it and since I send all of my work into the Copyright office - I stand by that decision. Also, some countries don't recognize the symbol by itself as actually being copyrighted work. So, it's always been suggested to me to actually have "Copyright" with the symbol.

Love hearing all the different opinions. I, personally, don't ever use the copyright symbol for my own work online. But that is for a very simple reason. Anything I post online I would never try to get published in a journal. I would keep offline any work I want to submit professionally.

Perfect timing, as I was just searching the web for copyright advice. Great information that I intend to follow.

i put a copyright symbol and notice on the sidebar of my blog, but i don't do it after every piece. i've often wondered if i should, but it seems so redundant and so obvious.
